Innovation is essential for councils to continue supporting citizens in the face of massive resource and funding constraints.
The pressure on local government to provide more with less is huge and there is renewed emphasis on citizen engagement. But councillors across the country have been leading the way, championing new and creative approaches, building new relationships, and finding ways to reduce demand rather than salami slicing services.
The Innovation Achievement of the Year Award recognises outstanding councillors who have:
- Pioneered innovation in public services, commissioning, or citizen engagement
- Championed new approaches and ways of working within the council
- Demonstrated a willingness to take risks and test new ideas
