This year we introduced the Member’s Choice category for the first time. We asked LGiU members to suggest categories they thought reflected the most important qualities for good councillors. Of all the many great ideas members submitted, we decided on Communicator of the Year.
Communication both within the council, with your local officers, and of course, with the public is an essential part of life as a councillor – listening, collaborating, and facilitating conversations. An effective communicator can unlock doors, smooth difficult situations and bring people along with them in partnership.
The councillor who wins this category will:
- have a track record of excellent communication with other councillors, officers and the public
- have achieved positive change for their area as a result of their communication skills
