Since the last briefing on Census 2011 (January 2013), ONS has published a number of more detailed releases on topics such as religion, ethnicity, migration, and detailed characteristics by ward and super output area. Mid-year population estimates for 2012 (MYE2012) have also been published.
This briefing provides a summary of key releases over the January – August 2013 period, and also looks ahead to further releases later on in 2013/14. It outlines the major demographic changes on which further light is thrown by these latest releases. It also alerts local authorities to the ongoing ‘Beyond 2011’ exercise to define the future of census and small area statistics.
Whilst focusing mainly on census and demographic data, the increasing amount of economic intelligence available on a Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) basis is also signposted – given the major LEP workload currently ongoing for LAs and local partners.
Members and officers involved in policy development and in the use of evidence in detailed service design at local and neighbourhood levels should find the briefing of particular value.
