Reality has been the theme of my week. I gave a talk at the County Councils Network in which I talked about the public sector spending crash ahead. Some nodded, some scribbled, but it seemed that most just let it pass by. I’m not sure if that is because they get it, and are thinking about it, or if it isn’t registering yet. I suspect the later. Ben Page, presenting at an event yesterday, put it like this… the ‘odd decade’ is ending, most of us will never live to see another period of such bounty in public sector funding, and most of us either weren’t around or can’t remember what it was like before. Tough times are ahead and they will call for a different style of leadership.
