Project: Local Government Flood Forum

FloodForumv2a

The Local Government Flood Forum is the independent voice of local government on flooding matters that gives local councils a strong voice and a fair deal.  The LGFF is supported by global design, engineering and management consultancy WSP.

The LGFF works to ensure that members have access to the most up-to-date information and intelligence from policy makers.  Past LGFF speakers have included:

  • Richard Benyon MP, former Minister of State (DEFRA)
  • Anne McIntosh MP, Chair of EFRA Select Committee
  • Alison Baptiste, National Coastal Policy Manager, EA
  • Daniel Johns, Head of Adaptation, Committee on Climate Change
  • Matt Cullen, Policy Adviser, Association of British Insurers
  • Jon Hall, Chief Fire Officer, Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service
  • Cllr Derek Antrobus, Deputy Mayor, Salford City Council

LGFF membership also gives members access to cutting-edge research.  In 2011, LGFF partnered with Imperial College London, Met Office and EU-backed RainGain project to develop and pilot innovative technology that will radically improve the management of surface water flooding.

In 2015, the LGFF will be discussing progress in Flood Re (flood insurance), SUDS Approval Bodies and the impacts of changes to the planning regime on flooding; the use of new technologies in flood prevention, and moving the debate forward on how local government and local communities can provide good governance around flood risk management.

Signing up

LGFF membership entitles members to send two delegates to three day-long meetings addressed by leading figures from local government, central government, academia, key national organisations and the private sector. To help ensure that these events are as convenient as possible for members to attend, meetings will be held in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Further information about the LGFF’s work, including presentations from previous meetings and future meetings, can be found on the LGFF website at www.lgff.info.

If you or your local authority would like to discuss LGFF membership please contact Andy Johnston,andy.johnston@lgiu.org.uk or Barry O’Brien at barry.obrien@lgiu.org.uk or 020 7554 2800.
