The DfE Better Communications Research Programme focuses on the way needs are identified and services provided for those pupils with speech, language and communication needs. It suggests a greater focus on individual need rather than diagnostic category and greater collaboration between practitioners, service providers and strategy managers in monitoring language development needs. It also urges the provision of better information and support for parents and families involved in the process of identifying needs and securing provision to meet that need. The report will be useful for strategy managers, those involved in speech and language development and the provision of additional needs in and beyond schools.
