LGiU C’llr Achievement Awards are open for nominations!

The LGiU is delighted to announce that the 2014 Annual C’llr Achievement Awards, supported by CCLA, are now open for nominations. Back for a fifth year, the C’llr Awards are the only national awards ceremony to recognise and reward the outstanding work of councillors from across the political spectrum.

This year, there will be a total of 11 different awards on offer at the 2014 ceremony. These include the Community Champion Award, the Judges’ Special Award for Contribution to Local Government, the all-new Digital Innovator of the Year Award and the Bruce-Lockhart Member Scholarship. The latter includes a £10,000 bursary, supported by Kent, Essex, and East Sussex councils.

Councillors play a vital role in championing the interests of their communities, but all too often we can overlook their contributions. The Awards provide a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work of councillors from across the country, and aim to recognise and reward those councillors who go over and above what is expected of them: councillors who show absolute dedication to their communities and make positive change happen to the lives of people in them.

Our past winners have included Cllr Paul Bettison, Bracknell Forest Council, who judges described as “an inspiration across the local government sector”, because of the sheer scope and diversity of his achievements. Other winners include Cllr Catherine West, Leader of the London Borough of Islington, who won Leader of the Year in 2013 and is now Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hornsey and Wood Green, and Cllr Jean Stretton, who worked tirelessly for the people of Oldham following a gas explosion in June 2012.

Do you know a councillor who has gone above and beyond to serve their community, and deserves recognition? If so, get nominating! Everyone and anyone can make a nomination, and it’s free to do so.
