C’llr Awards 2012: CCLA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Financial Performance

“He is a powerful figure and his control of money is absolute”

–          C’llr Magazine on Councillor Maurice Heaster, winner of the CCLA Award, 2011

CCLA co-sponsor the C’llr Awards as a whole, but they also support a specific award that looks to recognise and reward effective and strategic treasury management.

The CCLA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Financial Performance ties in with the underlying goals and ideals of CCLA as an organisation. As CCLA is owned entirely by Charities, the Church of England, and Local Authorities, it is in a unique position to provide special investment management exclusively for their benefit.

Of particular interest to councillors, CCLA have recently launched the Public Sector Deposit Fund. Designed with guidance from the Local Government Association (LGA), the fund offers local authorities a highly competitive, easy access, low risk, cash management solution.

In the same way that this new fund aims to help councils ensure that value for money and better services are at the heart of their spending decisions, the CCLA Award will be presented at this year’s C’llr Awards to a specific councillor who has shown a real commitment to a value-for-money agenda.

As can be gleaned from the quote that opened this post, last year Councillor Maurice Heaster (London Borough of Wandsworth) provided a strong example of what effective treasury management looks like in practice. As the Chair of the budget review process for all council departments, Cllr Heaster ensured a rigorous process of challenge and always sought to find more efficient approaches to service delivery.

If you know a councillor who has shown a similarly strong commitment to using the council’s resources efficiently to produce better outcomes for local people, then please show your appreciation of their great work by nominating them for this year’s CCLA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Financial Performance.

Anybody can do this by simply completing one of our new, streamlined nomination forms, which can be downloaded, along with further instructions, here.

The closing date for entries in this category is 30th December, 2011.
