The week ahead 18/07/11

We are waiting for the local government resource review report which is expected this week, possibly today.

On Tuesday the education select committee will publish  Participation by 16-19 year olds in education and training.

Also on Tuesday the UK National Audit Office is expected to publish the report of its review of the government’s main funding formulae, which distribute funds from central government to local services.

The LGiU is launching 10 Pillars of Local Energy Security on Tuesday. Successfully delivering safe, secure low-carbon energy will be one of the main challenges facing public sector organisaitons in the next decade. This guide aims to help local authorities and other organisations navigate their way through the policy choices and financial considerations.

Wednesday is the deadline for completing the LGiU’s Member Feedback Survey. If you are from a council or other organisation that holds an LGiU membership then please do take a few minutes to complete the survey and tell us what you think of our services and how we could develop and improve what we do. We’ve already had a large number of responses and current feedback so far includes: nearly 90% see our key role as providing authoritative policy information; nearly half also see us as strengthening local government’s influence in Westminster; over 80% are keen for LGiU to offer more in terms of regional events, peer networks, and horizon scanning. The LGiU’s local democracy blog has launched the Local Leaders series – the space is devoted to strong, effective and creative leadership. Posts are written by Council Leaders who the LGiU believes are the most innovative and inspirational in local government. The posts have already had over 1,400 views and are being pinned on a map – which can be seen here
